A two-month-old baby who was allegedly sold by his mother for N150, 000 has been found and returned to Suleja, Niger State from Onitsha in Anambra state were the buyers took him to.
The baby was found following the arrest and detention of one of the suspected buyers by members of a vigilante group in the area. The buyer was said to have confessed buying the baby, after the mother complained of her inability to continue nursing the baby alongside his sister as their father had absconded.
According to report, the mother of the baby, who resides at Chaza Village, near Suleja, immediately left for Benue state after the transaction.

Leader of the vigilante group, Mr. Bisala Akoshi, said that four persons suspected to have been connected with the deal, including the man alleged to have bought the baby, have also been apprehended and handed over to the policemen at Suleja ‘B’ division for further investigation.
Also speaking, a cleric in a Church at Chaza, where the mother worships, said the church was shocked to receive the news as they had donated N5,000 to the mother of the baby to enable her travel back to her village when she approached the church.
When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Niger state command, Richard Adamu, an Assistant Superintendent, said the command has not been briefed about the incident.
