A senior Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered that a grandfather, Titiloye Tella, be remanded in Ilesa Prison for allegedly raping an 11-year-old vendor.
The accused allegedly commited the offence on August 31, 2013, at the Temidire area of Gbongan, in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr. Wilson Merete, told the court that the accused called the girl who was hawking old newspapers, saying he wanted to buy N20’s worth. He allegedly dragged her into his bedroom where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of the underage girl.

The prosecutor said that Tella stuffed the girl’s mouth with cloth to silence her and only released her after he had accomplished his mission.
The charge sheet read, “That you Titiloye Tella, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of an 11-year-old girl; covered her mouth with cloth  and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section  218 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.”
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, ordered  that the accused person  be remanded in Ilesa Prison while his lawyer, Mr. S. B. Ajibade, should furnish the court with a written application for the accused bail.
