British woman shot dead in Turkish holiday villa

A British woman has been shot dead and her mother and son have been left seriously injured after their gardener at a holiday villa in Turkey reportedly opened fire on them.

The three victims are all said to be from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, and were staying in Dalyan, on Turkey's south coast. Reports suggested the gardener had previously rowed with the family and carried out the attack in the early hours of Monday morning. The family were said to have been enjoying a birthday party at the villa on Sunday.
The gardener later handed himself in to police and is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the death of a British national in Turkey on 9 September. We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.
"We can confirm the hospitalisation of two British nationals in Turkey on 9 September. We are providing consular assistance."
